Former US president Jimmy Carter met political leaders and social activists today. In this course, he also met with Pasang Sherpa, President of Nepal Federation of Indigenous Nationalities (NEFIN). A month ago, Mr. Sherpa was denied visa to enter USA when he was going there to participate in UN Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues. And a couple of months ago, UN Special Rapporteur on the Situation of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedom of Indigenous People also came and interact with NEFIN.
In this context, I’m just thinking… if foreign leaders like Mr. Carter and UN officials start to visit Nepali indigenous leaders in this way then they don’t have to spend one hundred dollers for US visa fee and other expences and efforts in vain. So, why bother?
